4 Generations

I grew up looking at photos from a photo session of my grandma, mom, and myself. It was 1993, and we were all dressed in some variety of floral dresses. When I learned that I would have a fourth generation of girls, I knew I wanted to do generation photos like those.

I couldn’t quite find (or bring myself to wear) the floral of the 90’s photos, and I chose not to do those poses. Despite the differences in the photos, I think they capture the same essence as did the ones from 30 years ago. I hope Isla grows up looking at these generation photos and thinks fondly of them like I did. And, maybe in 30 years, we will take generation photos again, but this time Isla will choose the outfits and poses, because the ones from 2023 will be quite outdated.

When looking at these images, I cannot help but be filled with gratefulness—because we get to have these photos and because each of us has been blessed to have strong and amazing woman from the generation before, that raised us. As I look at these photos, I can’t help but notice ribbons of similarities that flow through the generations, and yet, we are each unique.

Four generations—McCabe, Weaver, Linton, See…

Special thanks to Gideon for snapping photos and Isaac for trying to make Isla laugh.
